A former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kutigi Idris has died at a London Hospital aged 78.

Justice Kutigi, who served as CJN between 2007 and 2009, was the Chairman of the Constitutional Conference organised by the Jonathan administration in 2014.
The Commissioner for Information in Niger, Danjuma Sallau confirmed Kutigi’s death on Sunday morning.
“We are making arrangements to transport our father back for burial,” his son, Sani Kutigi, told News Agency of Nigeria.
The late Kutigi was born on Dec. 31, 1939 in Lavun LGA of Niger State and left behind 18 children and over 40 grandchildren.
He was Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Niger State until 1976 when he was appointed as a Judge of the High Court.
After serving for more than a decade, he joined the Supreme Court in 1992.
He replaced Justice Alfa Belgore who retired as Chief Justice of Nigeria on January 17, 2007.
