A mentally unstable ex-army officer killed 6 people with an iron rod on Tuesday in Haryana’s Palwal in an unprovoked killing spree.
The 6 murders happened in different areas and are believed to have been committed by the same man
All the six murders took place between 2:30 am and 3:30 am. Though the man is in custody, Palwal, a town 80 km from Delhi, has been put on high alert and residents told not to leave their houses.
Police in India report Naresh Dhankar, 45, began killing victims in a hospital in Palwal a 35-year-old woman found stretched out on the floor of the ICU unit.
The next 3 murders took place in rapid succession. The men were security guards and beggars who were found outside the hospital. The last victim was a security guard.
Police spokesman Sanjay Kumar stated “He attacked a woman at a hospital first. We rushed there and as we were scanning the CCTV footage we got to know that more bodies had been found,”
“The accused has been arrested and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital,” the spokesman told AFP.
A TV grab showed Dhankar, wearing a blue pullover, walking with an iron rod in his hands.
Kumar quoted Dhankar’s wife as saying he had been “mentally disturbed” for the past few days.
“We are investigating to find out the exact motive behind the killings,” the spokesman said.
