We all know the story of the cat who looked in the mirror and saw a lion, or the lizard who fancied himself a crocodile, well that is the story of one not so Honourable Evans Bipi.
His claim to fame is the fact that he is the President’s wife’s cousin. He is a shining example of much that is wrong with the Nigerian State. Nepotism, corruption, political thugs for hire and so on and so forth.
Evans Bipi sleeps at night, and awakens in his dreams as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Sadly when he wakes up in this world, he is determined to propagate that fantasy. Bipi remains oblivious to the fact that everyone can see through his charade and indeed EVERYONE is calling his bluff.
He is the tough guy whose Jesus Christ is Patience Jonathan. The man who is ready to die a thousand deaths for Mama Peace. Maybe he didn’t get the memo on her name change. Or perhaps he fails to realize unlike the real Jesus Christ, Dame Patience’s powers are limited and do not include healing or resurrection power.
The man fancies himself the Speaker but he is really only a loudspeaker as his shenanigans captured on Youtube will reveal to a disinterested casual observer.
If Martin Luther King were alive to dream today, he would dream such rabble rousers out of existence. People like Bipi are not good for our nascent democracy. We don’t need hyperactive liars, feeding off the N1 billion a year food budget table to give a crumb to our unemployed restive youth and propagate violence in the name of spoils of political power.
There have been a series of explosions in Rivers of recent, the latest being targeted at the same judge who ordered Bipi to drop his grandeur delusion. Not to say Bipi is the culprit here, but any serious police force would list him as a prime suspect.
Yet he and the State Police Commissioner are said to be bedfellows, plotting and conspiring to bring Rivers State to muck because Amaechi dared Mama Peace and by extension the Mandela of Nigeria. Amaechi’s crime was not being a sycophant like Godswill Akpabio for instance or a foot mat for their Excellency of Excellencies.
One hopes Bipi snaps out of his madness soon, before an irreversible cure is to fall upon him.
