All is not well in the Belgium camp of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, especially between Head Coach Sunday Oliseh and captain Vincent Enyeama.
Oliseh was said to have appointed forward Ahmed Musa, who captained the squad in September’s 2017 AFCON qualifier game against Tanzania, as the new substantive captain, despite Enyeama’s presence in the camp in Belgium.
Enyeama said he could not make the trip to Dar es Salaam because he lost his mother, who was buried over this weekend.
Trouble started when Enyeama reported to camp late ahead of the double-header friendly games against DR Congo and Cameroon, stating that he had gotten permission to report to camp late in order to bury his mum.
Apparently, Oliseh would have none of the excuse given by Enyeama as he went ahead to choose Musa as his captain for the Super Eagles.
Giving his reasons for choosing Musa, Oliseh while on an interview on phone from Belgium with Brila FM, said:
“There is no captaincy tussles …For Nigeria going forward, I need a player who is regular in the team and it is Ahmed Musa, who did a great job in Tanzania under very difficult circumstances,” Oliseh said in a radio interview with Brila FM on Wednesday morning from Belgium.
“He (Musa) is the captain of the team, not somebody who is thinking of retirement.
“A captain has to lead by example. We are not here to build stars.
“If you don’t conform to what I am trying to do, we will be friends, but we will be friends from afar,” Oliseh said.
Comparing his management style to President Muhammadu Buhari’s he said: “There has been a new government and the President has picked new ministers. And that is what I have also done.”
