Enugu government debunks rumour of coronavirus in Nsukka

The Enugu state government says there is no case of coronavirus in Nsukka area of the state.

Permanent secretary of the state ministry of health, Ifeanyi Agujiobi, made this known on Sunday while debunking reports of coronavirus case in the state.

Agujiobi said: “The Enugu State Ministry of Health wish to dispel the rumors making the rounds that there is a case of Corona Virus in Nsukka.

“This is false, misleading and fake; as there is no testing centre in the whole of Enugu State. The general public is informed that as at today, March 22, there is no case of Corona Virus in Enugu State.

“Even as all is encouraged to restrict movement, cancel all unimportant gathering and to observe personal health hygiene.”

The permanent secretary, however, urged residents of the state to observe personal health hygiene.

Earlier, The Herald reported that the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has announced that the suspected case of Coronavirus in Enugu has been confirmed negative.

There had been reports of a suspected case of Coronavirus in isolation in Enugu.

The suspected case had been that of a 72 year old woman who had just returned from the United States.

The woman reported symptoms of the disease and was subsequently isolated and a test carried out.

The NCDC however announced that the laboratory result of the Coronavirus test came back negative.

This was announced via the Twitter handle of the NCDC @NCDCgov.

The organisation in charge of infectious disease in Nigeria advised Nigerians to wait for confirmation from the NCDC before spreading information on social media.
