The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA) has nabbed a 400-level student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Anambra State, Chizoba Nwabuwa for ingesting 25 wraps of male condoms filled with cocaine at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu State .

The 32-year-old undergraduate was arrested when he tested positive for liquid cocaine which weighed 1.250kg.

The Head of the NDLEA, Enugu Airport Command, Mr. Nsikak- Abasi Udoh, has confirmed the arrest in a statement released by the NDLEA’s Head of Public Affiars, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju.

The agency noted that Nwabuwa was arrested during the inward screening of passengers on an Ethiopian flight from Brazil at the newly upgraded International Airport.

Ofoyeju stated, “The suspect excreted 25 wraps of a liquid substance that tested positive for cocaine, weighing 1.250kg. This is the first drug seizure to be made at the airport; it is exciting because we have just commenced operations.”

Nwabuwa had claimed to be a 400 level student of Fine and Applied Arts at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra Stat.

He also disclosed that he wanted to use the N500, 000 payback his cohorts had  promised to pay him in developing his art gallery.

“They assured me in Brazil that authorities will not be able to detect liquid cocaine, so I was confident.”, he said.

However, the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA Ahmadu Giade commended his men for the seizure adding that the Agency accords high priority attention to all the nations’ airports.

“We shall continue to improve our operations at the airports and prevent drug trafficking syndicates from using them”, he stated.
