Enrolment figures in the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo have plummeted drastically, the school authorities have said.
The school authorities said this was caused by apathy of students towards the Nigeria Certificate in Educaton (NCE) programme and called for the state government to upgrade the school to the status of a University of Education.
Conducting journalists on a tour of facilities funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in the school, Registrar, Mr. Sam Iwarisi, also said that the Fund’s intervention in the school has been massive; 90 per cent of the classrooms, lecture theatres, offices and libraries were provided by the fund.
Nwarisi was full of praises for TETFund, declaring that the staff members of the school have also taken advantage of the opportunity provided by the Fund to improve themselves to Master’s and Doctorate degree levels.
Stating that facilities in the school have improved, he called on students seeking admission into tertiary institutions to make the school their destination of choice.
