The Super Eagles of Nigeria were downed 2-1 by England in a friendly that took place today.
Goals from Gary Cahill and Harry Kane were enough to give the Three Lions victory over the Nigerian team.
Gary Cahill headed the hosts into a seventh-minute lead from Kieran Trippier’s corner and Harry Kane’s shot squirmed underneath the Nigerian keeper to give the English team a two-goal lead.
Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi started the second half brightly, pulling one back for the Super Eagles with a poached effort. He made a lovely over-the-head pass to Odion Ighalo who struck but watched as his effort bounced off the post, but Iwobi was quickest to react and scored with his left.
Nigeria were more dominant in the second half but were unable to break down a resolute England defense.
Raheem Sterling who has been in the news due to a tattoo on his leg which depicted a gun. The English winger got a lot of flak for it and he will be in the news for the wrong reasons after he was booked for diving. He was clear on goal, but the Nigerian keeper was quickly off his line, there was no contact but Sterling was quick to go down.
The game ended 2-1 in England’s favour and they have one more friendly against Costa Rica before the World Cup begins in a fortnight.
