#EndSARS protests woke sleeping Nigerian leaders from lethargy – Aregbesola

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola says Nigerians youths must be commended for the #EndSARS protests, which he said “woke the nation from its lethargy and roused our consciousness to the situation in which we found ourselves”.

He spoke on Friday during an address of the Christian community that participated in the Third Session of the Third Synod of the Ijesa North Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Ijebu Jesa.

Aregbesola, who is a former Governor of Osun State, said he was in the state for some days to carry out a presidential directive to ministers to engage their constituents on security in the aftermath of the #ENDSARS protests in parts of the country and mayhem and havoc wreaked by hoodlums who hijacked the protests.

Commending the youths, he said, “The youth must be commended for organising a protest that woke the nation from its lethargy and roused our consciousness to the situation in which we found ourselves.

“These youth are a blessing to any society just as they can be the purveyor of evil, if their energy is not properly channelled.”

Aregbesola added, “Today’s youths are a peculiar breed. They are a new generation, the generation of the social media and the power of ideas and intellect.
“They appear more intelligent and far more enterprising than previous generations.
“The deployment of their intelligence is a different matter, which we must all seek to re-channel through positive modelling, mentoring, retraining and ultimately gainful employment.”
