1 Min Read

Popular Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to provide leadership as Nigerians troop to the streets across the nation to demand an end to police brutality.

Tagged #EndSARS, the campaign to end harassment and brutalisation of young Nigerians by the police was the No. 1 trending hashtag on Twitter globally throughout Friday afternoon.

Lending her voice to the campaign in an open letter to the president, Genevieve Nnaji recalled how her 13-year-old niece was slapped by operatives of the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) simply for going around with her (niece’s) laptop.

She disclosed that all attempts to bring the erring policemen to justice failed.

The multiple award-winning actress said that the harassment of hapless citizens by SARS and other police units has put a question mark on the president’s promise to bring change.

Genevieve Nnaji called on the president to speak up to douse tensions before things degenerated any further.l

She added that she was saddened that Nigeria is an incubator for talent and not habitat.
