Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for imposing fines on some television stations for alleged “unprofessional coverage” of the EndSARS protests.
He said that the NBC’s action portrayed President Muhammadu Buhari as a “dictator and fascist” and that the current administration has “something to hide”.
The controversial Fani-Kayode stated this in a tweet on Monday after NBC announced it has imposed fines on Channels Television, African Independent Television (AIT) and Arise Television.
Acting Director-General of the commission, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba announced the fines during a press conference in Abuja.
He said that the stations have been fined N3 million each.
Recall that the NBC last week warned broadcast stations against embarrassing the government in their coverage of the EndSARS protests.
He further warned that the stations must not embarrass private individuals or cause disaffection, incite to panic or rift in the society.

Reacting to the fine, Fani-Kayode wrote, “Someone please tell NBC that Nigeria is not a police state & you cannot gag the press. Sanctioning & fining @AIT_Online, @channelstv & @ARISEtv for airing footage on the #LekkiMassacre #LekkitollgateMassacre only proves the fact that @MBuhari is nothing but a dictator & fascist.
“It also proves that they have something to hide.”
