A 45-year-old employee, Kolawola Ayinde, who was caught on the CCTV stealing N45,000 belonging to a company, was on Friday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mrs F.F. George, on a charge of stealing.
Ayinde, who resides in Ikorodu, Lagos State, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted a bail of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
George said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Godwin Awase told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 26 at Ilupeju, Lagos.
He said the accused stole N45,000, belonging to Banker’s Warehouse Company Ltd.
“The accused was caught by the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera as he removed N45,000 out of the money he was asked to count.
“When he was questioned, he could not give a satisfactory answer and he was immediately handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.
The offence contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence carries a seven-year jail term.
The case was adjourned until June 14 for mention. (NAN)
