Emir Sanusi tasks parents on proper upbringing of wards

2 Min Read

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, has called on parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children to enable them become useful members of the society.

He gave the advice at a meeting of Northern Muslims Religious Leaders Forum on Primary Health Care, held in Kano on Tuesday.

The Forum had as its theme, “Strengthening the capacity of religious leaders on maternal and child health.”
He said there was urgent need for parents and guardians to take up the challenge in view of the prevailing moral decadence, especially among youths.

“Lack of proper upbringing of children is one of the challenges facing the society today.

“Parents and guardians have a herculean task because if children grow up without proper education and upbringing, they can engage in social vices”, he said.

He called on Islamic scholars to enlighten Muslims on the need for patients to invest in the education of their wards.

“The era of producing children any how without giving them the necessary education, food and shelter, is over.

“The best and lasting legacy parents can leave for their children is education, so I urge you (Islamic scholars) to enlighten people on the importance of education”, Sanusi said.

He also stressed the need for husbands to ensure that their pregnant wives were allowed to attend ante-natal clinics in order to ensure safe motherhood.

“Pregnant women need proper medical care, hence the need for husbands to allow their wives to attend ante-natal clinics to access the best medical care”, he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr Nasiru Mahmud, had called on government at all levels to come up with programmes that would reduce maternal and child mortality. (NAN).
