Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has debunked a news report saying he has launched a “fresh plot” against President-elect Bola Tinubu.
The CBN governor spoke through a statement signed by Isa AbdulMumin, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications of the apex bank.
In a news report published on Monday, a national daily, The Nation, stated that Emefiele “is determined to influence the outcome of the March 18 governorship election in Lagos State against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)”.
The newspaper reported that “apex bank has released N500 million in new bank notes to shore up the campaign of the Labour Party (LP) in the state”, which is the stronghold of President-elect Tinubu.
However, Emefiele said that nothing could be farther from the truth.
He said he has never met nor interacted with the LP candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, describing the news report as “completely false and malicious”.
