Elton John has hit back at reports that he is set to announce his retirement after his 70th birthday next year.
Taking to Instagram, the singer assured fans there were ‘no truth’ to the reports and added that he was looking forward to celebrating 50 years of working with songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin.
Posting a throwback photo of himself and Taupin, John wrote: “Don’t believe what you read in the papers today. There is no truth to the rumours that I am planning to retire.
“In fact, I am looking forward to celebrating 50 years of collaborating with my partner-in-song, Bernie Taupin, next year.”
During his 50-year-career, John has sold more that 300 million records, won five Grammys, an Oscar, 11 Ivor Novello awards and has played more than 3,000 gigs.
Reports had stated John told friends he would be retiring next year.
A source said: “Elton has seen and done it all, and has nothing left to prove.”
They added that John had originally planned to retire in 2018, but brought the date forward after disappointing sales of his most recent album, Wonderful Crazy Night.
The 69-year-old was also said to be keen on having more time with his young family and to work more to raise funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
