Elections: NDLEA partners other security agencies to clampdown on criminals

3 Min Read

The FCT Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it is collaborating with other security agencies to clampdown on activities of criminals before, during and after the elections.

Mr Peter Adegbe, its Spokesman, said this in Abuja on Monday.

According to him, the NDLEA joint operations with other security agencies will be sustained after the elections.
“It has been the wrong tradition that when political campaigns are going on, the sale and use of drugs and other substances of similar effect are heightened.
“But the operational plans and activities the NDLEA has put in place at this very special period are hampering this age-long tradition and it is not going to be business as usual,” he said.
Adegbe said that the operational plan and activities already deployed were to enlighten and engage with communities, residents and institutions on the dangers of drug abuse and crime.
“Others include raid operations, breaking up black spots and other notorious centres for drug activities.
“Selected officers are to pin down any kind of regrouping.
“Once an area notorious for drug activities is liberated, selected officers are assigned to such areas to deal and subdue any thought of regrouping by the criminals.
“Their presence serves as a deterrent, ‘’he said.
The spokesman said that some “notorious joints” in the metropolis were recently raided and arrests made as part of the clampdown on criminal elements.
“Torra Bora was raided recently and three suspects were arrested with combined quantity of 17.350kg of cannabis sativa.

“Mabushi Garden was also raided, 16 suspects were arrested and all were users.
“Thirty two suspects have been arrested in the course of the raids in Karu Abattoir and Lugbe.

“We also arrested one Mr Yobo, a dealer with 20kg of cannabis sativa in Darkin Biyu, Jabi,” he said.
Adegbe said that the agency would continue to ensure that drug barons were brought to justice, adding that the agency would curb the menace of drug use to the barest minimum.
He also warned residents of the FCT to be vigilant and avoid drug abuse and peddling as the NDLEA would deal decisively with anybody caught.
“Desist from drug abuse or leave the FCT as anyone arrested will be decisively dealt with and prosecuted,” he said. (NAN)
