The Kogi State Government on Monday announced that all schools in the state would temporarily close down for the Feb.16 and March 2, general elections.
The government directed school administrators to comply with the two mid-term breaks in the reviewed 2018/2019 academic calendar in the state.
Mr Eric Aina, the Permanent Secretary, Kogi State Ministry of Education, Science & Technology, announced this in a statement in Lokoja, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya.
Aina said in the statement that the ministry had reviewed the 2018/2019 Academic Calendar to ensure that mid-term break for schools across the state coincided with the general elections.
“In view of the forth coming general elections, the State Ministry of Education has approved two `half-term breaks’ to cover both the presidential and gubernatorial elections for all educational institutions in the state.
“This is in view of the fact that elections are held in some schools.
“I am directed to request you to close all schools for mid-term break as follows:
“First term break from Feb. 13 to 15, 2019; classes are to resume on Feb. 18, and boarders are to return on the evening of Feb. 17.
“Second `half-term break’ from Feb. 28 to March 1; classes are to resume on March 4.
“Boarders are to return to school on the evening of March 3, 2019,” Aina said.
He, therefore, called on all head teachers, principals, heads of schools and institutions, in both private and public schools in the state, to comply with the directive.
He also enjoined all parents and guardians in the state to take note of the break periods. (NAN)
