After his decision to contest the results of the last presidential election, which was held on the 23rd of February, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has now appointed a team of Legal Practitioners who would represent him at the elections tribunal.
According to him, the team will be headed by Dr. Livy Uzoukwu SAN. Atiku has remained displeased about the outcome of the election, blaming the opposition for offenses such as voters intimidation and suppression, in areas where PDP has many supporters, as well as “connivance of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC officials, security agents, and the ruling party to manufacture bogus figures and outright falsification of the returns from the polling units.”
Through a statement issued by his media adviser, the former vice president clarified his disapproval and intentions to the National Peace Committee, saying, “I have just inaugurated my legal team and charged them with the responsibility of ensuring that our stolen mandate is retrieved.
“I am encouraged by the presence of fearless men and women of the Bench. The judiciary which had in the past discharged itself ably is once again being called upon to deliver judgment on this matter that will be untainted by lucre and uncowed by the threat of immoral power”.
He also stated that two of his legal representatives who are SANs have repeatedly been threatened and advised not to join the team.
