el-Rufau, Sani Tension Escalate

2 Min Read

The apparent tension between Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state and the senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, got to a head when youths loyal to the governor took to the streets, accusing the senator of promoting religious strife in the state.

The youths further accused the senator, who is in the same All Progressives Congress party as the governor, of trying to seize the machinery of the party in the state prior to the 2019 general elections when he appears to want to run for the governorship seat in the state.

Similarly, the APC youths accused Sani of trying to derail the governor from fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of the state, describing him as noise maker who would not get their votes in the 2019, should he decide to run for the governorship seat.

However Senator Sani through his Adviser on Politics and Ideology, Suleiman Ahmed said: “What we always urge the state government to do is to divorce itself from sponsoring thugs and hooligans to issue press statement against some personalities in the State.

“Government should rather give the youths jobs to do, instead of using them to attack stakeholders in the state…the youths who are claiming to be defending the State governor are doing it at the detriment of themselves and the general society.
