2 Min Read

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) says it will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for optimal service delivery to its customers.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Godwin Idemudia, the General Manager, Communication Unit of the company and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lagos.

According to the statement, the MoU is for technical assistance from USAID under the US Government funded Power Africa Transactions and Reforms Program (PATRP) Inc.

The statement said that PATRP was designed to bring more electricity to Sub Saharan Africa through utilisation of transaction centred approach.

It stated that the initiative involves five technical assistance projects being implemented by Tetra Tech Inc.

“Under the MoU to be signed with USAID, the technical assistance will cover provision of management support to address losses, strengthen management controls and enhance the required performance turnaround.

“The assistance will also help demonstrate loss reduction strategies as well as other improvements that will serve as demonstrative effect for other distribution companies in the country,” it stated.

The statement said that at the inaugural meeting, Mr Dean White, the President of Tetra Tech Inc., said Tetra had a rich background of experience of partnering and managing power utilities in Africa.

According to him, Tetra is looking forward to a successful partnership with EKEDC.

The statement also quoted the Chairman, Board of Directors, EKEDC, Mr Charles Momoh as saying that the company will continue to do everything possible to bring about the desired turnaround in the power situation of the country.

Momoh said he was confident that the partnership with USAID through Tetra Tech Inc. was a step in the right direction which would yield positive result to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

He said that all conditions and responsibilities required from EKEDC for the partnership to work would be met. (NAN)
