The Onikogosi of Ikogosi Ekiti, Oba Abiodun Olorunnisola, says he has warned his subjects against buying meat from Fulani herdsmen whose 15 cattle were struck and killed by thunder on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at the Ikogosi Warm Spring site along Ipole -Ekiti road at the outskirt of Ikogosi Ekiti community, Ekiti West Local Government area, Daily Post reported.

Ikogosi Warm Spring is a popular tourist site notable for being the location where warm and cold spring converge.

The Fulani herdsmen were reportedly grazing their cattle at the site when rain began to fall heavily.

It was during this torrential rainfall that thunder struck, killing the cattle, the Asaoye of Ikogosi, Chief Ayo Ademilua, told journalists.

He described the incident as strange in the community.

Reacting, Onikogosi of Ikogosi Ekiti, Oba Abiodun Olorunnisola, said he got information that the affected herdsmen have been trying to sell the “desecrated” meat to the residents.

The king said he has also informed his colleague in Ipole Ekiti, Oba Oladele Babatola, to do same.

“The two of us have alerted our subjects that there was an attempt to commence the sale of the cows and we are making concerted efforts to prevent intending buyers,” Oba Olorunnisola said.

He appealed to the government to evacuate the dead cows to prevent communicable diseases from spreading in the two affected communities.
