Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has confirmed writing the widely-circulated congratulatory letter to Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
A news website had described the letter, which was written in the letterhead of the ex-president and personally signed by him, as a forgery.
However, a close associate of the president, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, said on his verified Twitter handle on Sunday evening that Obasanjo confirmed writing the letter.
In the letter, Obasanjo congratulated Fayemi on his election and advised him against treating his opponents with disdain.
Obasanjo also urged Fayemi to justify the confidence reposed in him by the generality of Ekiti people by giving them dividends of democracy.

Fani-Kayode tweeted: “I spoke to OBJ in China and I can confirm that he wrote the congratulations letter that is below to @kfayemi. The report in a website that the letter was a forgery is false. I believe that the election was rigged and that Fayemi did not win. The courts will determine the matter.”
Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated his closest challenger, Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 197,450 votes against the PDP candidate’s 178,121.
