Following his Saturday loss of the Ekiti gubernatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Segun Oni has bared his mind on the process that brought in Dr Kayode Fayemi.
Oni, a former governor of the state, praised the conduct of the APC state primary and promised to support and encourage the winner, Fayemi.
Fayemi polled 941 votes to defeat Oni, who secured 481 votes.
Other close challengers include Kayode Ojo (245 votes); Femi Bamisile (171 votes); and Oluyede Oluwole (110 votes).
Speaking after the process, Oni said, “I am a party person. I will not only support him (Dr Fayemi), I will encourage him. I don’t have any intention of leaving the APC.”
The gubernatorial election of the state is scheduled for July 14.
Segun Oni has dragged the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the July 14 Ekiti State gubernatorial election, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to court to challenge his candidacy.
According to Oni, who polled second in the primary election, Fayemi should have resigned his position as a minister before the election took place.
According to a report by TheCable, Oni has asked the court to determine if Fayemi’s action did not violate the Nigerian constitution and the guidelines of the ruling party.
The July 14 election is expected to be a straight battle between Fayemi and current governor, Ayodele Fayose‘s deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayemi was Ekiti state governor between 2010 and 2014 before he was defeated by Fayose during his re-election attempt.
