The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti, on Tuesday, lauded Gov. Kayode Fayemi for the bold steps taken so far in tackling the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The party gave the commendation in a statement signed by the APC state Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Sam Oluwalana, and made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti.

Oluwalana noted that even before the virus was detected in the state, the governor had taken proactive measures to curtail it.

He pointed out that as a visionary leader, Fayemi had acted before the evil days, to save lives and preserve the health as well as the wellbeing of the people.

Oluwalana, who also doubles as the Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Governor, also listed various pre-emptive measures put in place by the administration to include the prompt payment of March salary to civil servants, even when they had already started working from home.

According to him, the restriction of people to their various homes, ban on the public congregation of more than 20 persons, closure of all boundaries to the state and the total lockdown that followed, had assisted, in no small way, in curtailing the spread of the virus in the state.

The governor’s aide said that the government was now fully prepared and equipped to treat any reported case of COVID-19 in the state.

He urged the people of the state to promptly alert the committee in charge of the fight against the virus if anyone was suspected to be showing symptoms of the dreaded disease.

Oluwalana also noted that as part of the efforts to confront the public health and economic challenges associated with the pandemic, the governor had further taken some decisions aimed at ensuring that the impact of the pandemic was mitigated.

“Just last week, the governor set up a 47-member panel of eminent citizens of the state, including three former governors, to help mobilise resources to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The whole of Ado-Ekiti metropolis and the state teaching hospital are being disinfected by the state environmental health officials in the four-day exercise, which commenced on April 4,” he said.

Oluwalana appealed to Ekiti residents to adhere strictly to the various guidelines put in place by the state government to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus in the state.
