Ekiti 2014 Governorship Poll: Nigerian Army retires Gen. Momoh

2 Min Read

The Nigerian Army has reportedly retired Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh.

The development was announced by the Minister of Defence, Dan Ali in an exclusive interview in Washington, DC.

The move by the Nigerian Army to end General Momoh’s military career however is based on his role in the 2014 Governorship election in Ekiti State.

The Minister of Defence, Dan Ali, disclosed this in the United States as part of the Nigerian delegation to a nuclear power summit convened by President Barack Obama. He revealed that the Nigerian Army has decided to initiate a process of rusticating General Momoh who was indicted last year by a military panel.

Recall that the General was accused of leading a contingent of soldiers and security agencies to Ekiti State during the 2014 Governorship election. He also reportedly intimidated voters and inhibited the movement of officials of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in a calculated attempt and strategy allegedly approved by the former president Goodluck Jonathan to enable the present Governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party win the polls.

Conforming the Retirement, Col. Sani Usman, Army Acting Director of Public Relations, told news agency, Vanguard yesterday that Brigadier Momoh had been retired from the Army.
