Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Ufot Joseph Esuaiko Ekaette, as “brain box ” of his administration.

The Herald gathered that Ekaette served as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) during the eight-year tenure of Obasanjo.

Speaking at the final burial of the former SGF in Akwa Ibom state, Obasanjo said he benefited immensely from Ekaette’s wealth of experience which he said helped to steady the hands of his administration.

According to him, “Chief Ufot Ekaette was the brain box of the administration we served and I am happy and proud to say that he was behind many achievements we recorded as an administration.

“Ekaette worked very hard to make Nigeria better and gave all he had to ensure a better country for all Nigerians. That’s why we are here today not to mourn our late icon and bastion of integrity but to celebrate him for what he stood for: integrity, diligence, hard work, loyalty, commitment, honesty, and contentment.”

Also speaking at the burial, the Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel, said Ekaette made the state proud with his unparalleled intelligence and honesty. President Muhammadu Buhari was represented at the event by the current SGF, Boss Mustapha.

Speaking on behalf of the president, Mustapha said Nigeria had missed a quintessential civil and public servant with the death of Ekaette.
