Egyptian President Extends Hand of Partnership to Buhari

President of Egypt, Abdel Fatah al- Sisi has called President Elect, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari to congratulate him on the March 28 polls, the President also invited Gen Buhari asking him to come to Egypt to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

In a statement by the Head of Press and Information in the Egyptian Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Ahmed Maher who quoted the spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, Amb. Alaa Youssef as saying “During the call they discussed the bilateral relationship between the two countries and agreed on the importance of this relationship and the need to develop it on various levels.”

The statement added that both Presidents would also “discuss the regional and international common interests like fighting terrorism and enhancing the security and the stability of the continent for the desired development of their people.”

Meanwhile Ghanian President, John Mahama has praised President Goodluck Jonathan on the statesmanship displayed by conceding after the presidential polls.

Mahama who spoke with State House correspondents after holding a closed-door meeting with Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja said “I took the opportunity to commend him (Jonathan) for the statesmanship that was displayed after the election.

“We all knew that he congratulated President-elect Buhari after the election results and he conceded defeat.

“I feel that was a very great sign of maturity and has earned the respect of all Nigerians and the respect of the international community.

“We expect a smooth transition and possibly the role that Nigeria plays in the ECOWAS being the biggest economy not only in our sub-region but in the whole continent.”
