Egypt: Let’s confront, defeat terrorists – Trump

4 Min Read

U.S. President Donald Trump has condemned Friday’s terrorists attack in a bus in Egypt, calling on countries to come together to confront and defeat the evil organisation.

Trump, in a statement issued by the White House, said the latest attack on innocent civilians in Egypt had steeled the resolve to unite and crush them.

The bus was conveying members of the Egypt’s Coptic Christians when gunmen opened fire on them killing 28 people, including children and injuring dozens others.

“Terrorists are engaged in a war against civilization, and it is up to all who value life to confront and defeat this evil.

“This merciless slaughter of Christians in Egypt tears at our hearts and grieves our souls. Wherever innocent blood is spilled, a wound is inflicted upon humanity.

“But this attack also steels our resolve to bring nations together for the righteous purpose of crushing the evil organisations of terror, and exposing their depraved, twisted, and thuggish ideology.”

According to him, America also makes it clear to its friends, allies, and partners that the treasured and historic Christian Communities of the Middle East must be defended and protected.

Trump said the bloodletting of Christians must end, and all who aided their killers must be punished.

America stands with President Al Sisi and all the Egyptian people today, and always, as we fight to defeat this common enemy, he said.

“Civilization is at a precipice – and whether we climb or fall will be decided by our ability to join together to protect all faiths, all religions, and all innocent life.

“No matter what, America will do what it must to protect its people,” Trump said.

Earlier, Trump had in a statement on behalf of the American people, wished “all Muslims a joyful Ramadan”.

“This year, the holiday begins as the world mourns the innocent victims of barbaric terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom and Egypt, acts of depravity that are directly contrary to the spirit of Ramadan.

“Such acts only steel our resolve to defeat the terrorists and their perverted ideology.

“On my recent visit to Saudi Arabia, I had the honor of meeting with the leaders of more than 50 Muslim nations.

“There, in the land of the two holiest sites in the Muslim world, we gathered to deliver together an emphatic message of partnership for the sake of peace, security, and prosperity for our countries and for the world,” he said.

He reiterated his message delivered in Riyadh that America would always stand with its partners against terrorism and the ideology that fueled it.

During this month of Ramadan, let us be resolved to spare no measure so that we may ensure that future generations will be free of this scourge and able to worship and commune in peace, he said.

“During this month of fasting from dawn to dusk, many Muslims in America and around the world will find meaning and inspiration in acts of charity and meditation that strengthen our communities.

“At its core, the spirit of Ramadan strengthens awareness of our shared obligation to reject violence, to pursue peace, and to give to those in need who are suffering from poverty or conflict.

“I extend my best wishes to Muslims everywhere for a blessed month as you observe the Ramadan traditions of charity, fasting, and prayer. May God bless you and your families,” the U.S. leader said. (NAN)
