A State High Court in Abeokuta area of Ogun presided over by Justice Olarnewaju Mabekoje, has continued the hearing of a 32-count fraud charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against the former governor of the State, Gbenga Daniel.
The case, which was originally submitted in April 2012, borders around misappropriation of funds, amounting to the sum of N200 million, abuse of office, and criminal breach of trust.
At the time, Gbenga Daniel pleaded not guilty to the charges, causing the case to proceed into a trial.
The former governor later filed for a no-case on the charges.
However, on Friday, May 17, 2019, Justice Olanrewaju dismissed his suit and proceeded with the hearing. He equally asked Gbenga Daniel to plead his case on 18 of the 32-count charges against him.
Afterward, the judge discharged the defendant after looking into 14 of the counts. He subsequently adjourned the case to July 4 and 5, 2019 for further hearing.
