The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC froze the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose’s Zenith bank account some hours ago which prompted a release of an official statement by the Ekiti State Governor to its effect.
Ayo Fayose in his statement put it to the anti-graft agency that it does not have the power to freeze his account citing his position as an incumbent governor and his right to immunity.
In reply to his statement, the anti-graft agency through its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren has noted that the privileges of immunity enjoyed by the governor does not extend to cases as this. He further added that the commission cannot be prevented from acting and investigating suspicious movement of money into his accounts.
He said: “Immunity does not prevent EFCC from investigating suspicious accounts of those enjoying immunity and Fayose cannot be an exception.”
