The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has started moves aimed at stripping the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose of his luxury properties located in Lagos and Abuja estimated to be worth N1.35 billion.
The proposed seizure of the properties follows the discovery of four duplexes located in Victoria Island, Lagos State and one located at 44 Osun Crescent, Maitama, Abuja belonging to the Ekiti State Governor which was according to investigation revealed to have been acquired in six months after Fayose assumed office.
According to a reliable source within the agency, the houses were alleged to have been purchased using illegitimate funds adding that the seizure would be in line with the EFCC’s Assets Forfeiture clause which enables it to seize the properties in line with sections 28 and 34 of the EFCC (Establishment Act) 2004 and Section 13 (1) of the Federal High Court Act, 2004.
The source further added: “Investigations showed that the properties were bought with bribes from Ekiti State contractors. Some of the properties were not bought in Fayose’s name but through proxies. So, we will seize all the properties by God’s grace”.
