In what may be counted as the continued fall-out from the Political power play presently going on in the country like Nollywood sequences, news coming out of Abuja has revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu over an alleged case of conspiracy, abuse of office and money laundering.
In a letter dated 24th of July, 2018, the EFCC requested the presence of Ekweremadu at their office by 10: am. On July 24
Excerpts from the letter reads, “In view of the above, you are kindly requested to report and interview the undersigned at 5, Fomela Street Off Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent II, Abuja on Tuesday 24th July 2018 at 10:00 am prompt….This request is made in pursuant to section 38 (1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes (Establishment) Act, 2004,”
The anti-graft agency claims that Ekweremadu is being invited because his name featured prominently in several cases under investigation by the agency, hence the invitation to obtain certain clarifications from him.

The political tension in the country came to headway last night after the Inspector General of Police issued an invite to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki over an armed robbery attack in Offa town, Kwara State in which 31 persons were killed. The Police had claimed that one of the suspects arrested in connection with the murder had confessed that Saraki was their sponsor.
The Police had earlier withdrawn the invitation saying the Senate President could respond in writing which he did, the force headquarters however made a complete reverse last night and insisted that the Senate President had a case to answer by 8am, Tuesday morning.
By Tuesday morning however, police personnel had cordoned off the official residence of the Senate President and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu for unknown reasons.
Reacting the Senate President alleged that the police was being used to play a political game and he was being hunted because of his alleged planned defection to the PDP at Tuesday’s plenary along with 30 other senators thereby making APC the minority party in the House of Assembly.
Despite the Blockade however, the Senate President presided over plenary that witnessed the defection of 15 APC senators, including Dino Melaye to the PDP.
