The ongoing investigation of former Senate President David Mark by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continued on Thursday as the retired army general was interrogated by the anti-graft body.
This was following a two-week grace granted to the senator to attend to his health after he earlier claimed to have been “too sick to write a statement”, The Nation reported.
Mark is believed to be under investigation over alleged N5.4 billion slush funds.
The allegations against him include alleged N200m -N550m arms procurement cash from ONSA; N2.9billion curious payment into the National Assembly’s account and shared to senators during Mark’s tenure; his role in about N2billion campaign funds meant for Benue State; and illegal purchase of a N748million official residence of the Senate President.
Mark reportedly visited the EFCC’s office in Abuja in company of one of his sons around 2pm.
The Nation reported an undisclosed source within the EFCC as saying that the investigation had nothing to do with politics as, adding that the facts of the case would soon be released to the public.
Mark has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the investigation was politically motivated.
