The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Bisi Olagunju in an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding one Abiodun Julius of N4 million.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olagunju, who claimed to be a Special Adviser to a member of the House of Representatives, was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and fraud.
The EFCC’s counsel, Mr O. Owoduni, told the court that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N500,000 from Julius in the pretence of securing a job for the victim’s brother at the NSCDC.
Owoduni said that the defendant also obtained the sum of N3.5 million from Julius in the pretence of helping him to secure a contract for the supply of computers to the National Assembly.
Owoduni said that the incident happened some times in November 2015 within Ibadan Judicial Division.
He said that the offences contravened Section (1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, No.14, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The counsel to the defendant, Mr Nwabueze Onuoha, urged the court to grant bail to his client on liberal terms, saying he was presumed innocent until proved otherwise.
Justice Munta Abimbola granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum who must also reside within Ibadan.
Abimbola also ordered the defendant to submit her international passport to the court and adjourned the case till June 13 and June 14 for hearing. (NAN)
