EEDC Decries Attack on Worker in Umuahia

2 Min Read

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) on Tuesday decried the unwarranted attack on its member of staff, Obiajulu Atta, by a customer in Umuahia, the Abia capital.

The Head, Communications, EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, said in a statement in Enugu that the said customer cut the company worker’s hand with a matchet on Monday, while carrying out his duty.

“A staffer of EEDC, Obiajulu Atta, an Operations Technician attached to Umudike Service Center under Umuahia District, Abia State, was attacked by a customer,’’ Ezeh said.

He explained that the customer, whose full identity was not disclosed, was to be disconnected for non-payment of electricity bill.

Ezeh said that in the process the customer got infuriated, went for a matchet and cut Atta’s hand.

“First aid was immediately administered on the victim at a private clinic and he was subsequently rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, for proper medical attention.

“There is no justification whatsoever for this horrible act and the management of EEDC has vowed to apprehend the perpetrator of this crime and prosecute him accordingly,’’ he said.

The EEDC spokesman said that further details on the arrest and prosecution of the offender would be made available to members of the public to serve as deterrent to others.
