We are Responsive to Education Challenges at Grassroots- LASUBEB

4 Min Read

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), on Wednesday, said that the board was responsive to the education challenges faced at the grassroots.

Mr Wahab Alawiye-King, the Chairman of LASUBEB, made this known during an interactive session with other Board members, Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), secretaries and other stakeholders in Lagos.

Alawiye-King said the workshop, tagged, “Management Capacity Development Workshop”, was organised to enable all stakeholders to meet, deliberate and proffer solutions to issues raised by the quality assurance officers.

“We have realised that there is a need for all stakeholders to meet concerning the challenges facing the government initiatives, such as the Eko Excel and the Home-grown Feeding project.

“As a proactive and anticipatory board, we feel it is necessary to address some of these issues at a gathering of all stakeholders.

“We came to rub minds and exchange ideas and proffer solutions on the way forward; trusting our internal resource persons to give us up-to-date information.

“We share ideas, interact and network with the aim of finding solutions to new developments in the sector and how to manage them, ” Alawiye-King said.

He said that having Mr Adedoyin Adesina, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos State Chapter, in attendance with the secretaries of all the LGEAs was a welcome development.

“At the end of the day, solutions to the problems are proffered and total response to the problems are agreed upon.

“We would do a summative assessment of the problem and we do not intend to wait till after the problem is about to end; so we are coming up with a methodology on how to do our jobs.

“We have it at the back of our minds that as grassroots workers, we must work with passion and do things according to the expectations of our governor, “Alawiye-King said.

Olalekan Majiyagbe, Chairman, Conference of all LGEAs Secretaries, said that the essence of the workshop was to exchange ideas that would give way to new ideas of doing things.

He said that being at the grassroots of the 20 LGEAs helped them to ascertain the problems and challenges and with the effectiveness of LASUBEB board they could make good success.

“We have come to this meeting to exchange ideas and listen to solutions to the challenges that we face in our respective LGEAs.

“These developments have made us know that we are not alone in the job and the vision of the state government is well understood and pursued at the grassroots.

“The management capacity development programme is designed to address issues raised that are affecting government initiative.

“It is also an avenue where the LASUBEB chairman gets first -hand information on how well we are doing and other areas that need to be addressed,” Majiyagbe said.

The NUT Chairman who was present at the workshop said that he was impressed with the way Lagos State handled the issue of grassroots education.

He said that the state government’s level of dedication to the cause of achieving quality education for all was real.

He commended the LASUBEB Chairman, noting that his efforts had been result-oriented.
