Many policemen attached to the Edo State Police Command reportedly abandoned their duty posts following violent riots that erupted over the killing of a commercial driver for failure to part with N100 bribe.
According to The Nation, no policeman was seen on some streets and major roads in the state where they were usually stationed.
The situation was said to have also affected traffic wardens who were nowhere to be found as they had abandoned the usual spots.
No fewer than four operational vehicles of the command were reported razed in the mayhem.
Meanwhile, the command has arrested the personnel involved in the murder of the commercial driver.
According to a News Agency of Nigeria report, the State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo ordered the arrest.
He said, “Members of the alleged police team have been identified, arrested and currently being investigated.
“If found culpable, they will be made to face the full wrath of the law, as the command will not renege on its fight against all forms of human right abuses.
“We implore all parents and community leaders to prevail on their children and subjects not to take the law into their own hands and allow police investigation into the incident to be concluded.’’
