The Edo Joint Account and Allocation Committee (JAAC) on Tuesday declared that the allocation for Local Governments in July increased by N770 million when compared to that received in June.
The Head of Local Government Administration, Esan South East, Mr Macaulay Ehonor, disclosed this at the end of the JAAC meeting presided over by Gov. Godwin Obaseki at Government House in Benin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the total acrual from the Federation Account to the 18 councils in the state in June was N2.18 billion.
Ehonor said that N1.45 billion of the July allocation of N2. 95 billion was used for mandatory expenditures such as payment of primary school teachers’ salaries, one per cent training fund as well as five per cent payment for traditional rulers.
He said that the distributable sum left for the 18 councils was put at N1.49 billion.
He said it was resolved that Paris refund would be used to pay outstanding salaries of staff across the 18 councils.
He added that the collection of taxes, levies and fixed rates in the entire council areas in the state commenced in July, urging members of the public to always pay their taxes. (NAN)
