Edo 2024: Ex-NBA President, Olumide Akpata Joins Edo Governorship Race

Olumide Akpata

A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Olumide Akpata, has declared his intention to contest for Governor in the upcoming Edo State Election in 2024 under the umbrella of the Labour Party (LP).

The Herald reports that Akpata, who joined the Labour Party a few months ago noted that he is joining the race for the people.

Speaking on his plans for the people of the state, Olumide Akpata said if given the opportunity by the Labour Party to be their flag bear in the coming election, he would change the narrative and ensure that the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.

In his words: “My interest is for the people of Edo State. And what I find out in politics and governance in Nigeria today is that the people have been taken out of the equation. No one cares about the people.

“So, when I look around, the only party I find to be people-oriented and to be interested in the lots of our people is the Labour Party. So, I have come here to express my interest in contesting the position of the governor and to carry the people along.”

The lawyer-turned-politician also promised to take the Labour Party in the State to greater heights if he emerges as the party’s flag bearer in the 2024 governorship poll.
