Edo 2020: Obaseki deserves second term – TY Danjuma’s wife

2 Min Read

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Daisy Danjuma, has expressed support for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s reelection bid in her native Edo State, saying a performing governor deserved a second term in office.

Danjuma, who is the wife of former Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), spoke on Monday when she was hosted by Edo women during a reception held in Benin City.

She added that since the return to democracy in 1999, Lucky Igbinedion ruled for eight years, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for eight years, and Obaseki should be no different.

Urging Edo women to vote en-masse for the PDP candidate on September 19, Danjuma said Obaseki’s excellent performance compelled her to endorse his second term bid in an event in Lagos even before the governor defected to the party.

“Obaseki was in APC and I saw all that he was doing in Benin. I then said to myself this is not about party but about the individual.

“In my opinion, he has done well but as a member of the board of trustee of PDP I supported Obaseki for continuity even before his defection to the party.

“Since, the nation’s return to democracy in 1999, former governor Lucky Igbinedion ruled for eight years, Adams Oshiomhole also ruled for eight years why is it that a performing governor will not do eight years.

“There is no reason a performing governor will not have a second term,” Danjuma said.

According to her, giving Obaseki a second term would enable him to complete all his noble initiatives that were at different stages of completion.
