Ecobank Nigeria Limited has closed its branch in Wuse II, Abuja, following the reports of the first coronavirus death in Nigeria on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the bank, the deceased, Sulaiman Achimugu, a former Managing Director of Pipelines and Product Marketing Company visited the bank on Mach 12, 2020, twelve days before his death.

“Nigeria, very sadly, this morning recorded its first death, which unfortunately was one of our valued customers. Our most sincere condolences to the family.

“Our attention has been drawn to the fact that the deceased was at our Wuse II, Abuja Branch on 12 March 2020, twelve days ago.

“The deceased did not show any symptoms at the time of the visit.

“In line with the best standards and our COVID-19 response plans, we have, therefore, immediately temporarily closed the branch and all staff at the location have been put in mandatory self-isolation for 14 days, in full compliance with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control guidelines and to ensure their wellbeing and those of our customers.

“We have promptly informed the NCDC.

The bank then urged members of the public who may have visited the bank on March 12, to observe self-isolation and contact the NCDC.
