ECM meant for the three tiers not FG- Fayose

3 Min Read

Ayodele Fayose expressed his disapproval on using funds from the Excess crude Money by the FG to fight the insurgency of the Boko haram.

The Ekiti state Governor stated in his tweet “The question is; how can the federal government alone spend almost half of the Excess Crude money that belongs to the three tiers of government (i.e. Federal Government, States and Local Councils)?”

He denied any involvement with the withdrawal of $1bn from the funds, as the money was not meant for Federal government alone but the three tiers of government
“For posterity sake, I wish to place it on record that I was not among the governors, who approved the withdrawal of $1bn, almost half of our savings in the Excess Crude Account, which belongs to the three tiers of government to fight an already defeated Boko Haram.”

Furthermore, he explained that the money was not used to fight Boko Haram since the FG already claimed to have defeated Boko haram, but the money was being used to finance the 2019 Campaign for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Since they said they have defeated Boko Haram, what else do they need a whopping sum of $1 billion (over N360 billion) for; if not to fund President Buhari’s re-election in 2019?”
The decision to use part of the Excess Crude oil money by the federal government was made at the NEC ( National Economic Council) meeting in Abuja on Thursday 14th of December and was announced by the Governor of Zamfara, Abdulaziz Yari who is the Chairman of the NGF.

Fayose urged the FG to provide a rational explanation to why it would use about 360bn of funds that is meant to be allocated monthly to the Federal, state and Local government.

N360bn is equivalent to what the Federation Account Allocation Committee share to theFG, 36 States and 777 LGs monthly. Nigerians deserve proper explanations from the FG on the rationale behind spending such huge sum of money to fight an already defeated Boko Haram.”
