Last week Governor Ayodele Fayose made a controversial statement regarding the removal of $1b of the Excess Crude Account to help fight Boko Haram.
This decision was reached in Abuja by state governors at the National Executive Council meeting.
According to his statement via Twitter, he clarified his stance saying he was not in support of the decision as the ECA is not meant for just the FG but the three tiers of government.
However, Femi Gbajabiamila, a majority Leader of the house of representatives has reacted to this criticism Governor Fayose.
According to him, “On whether Gov Fayose or any other Gov has a right to kick I believe he does.”
He also added that state governors should have sought the approval of their state assemblies before making any decision as regarding removing funds from the ECA
“Where the governors have decided to “donate” some of their funds from the ECA to fight Boko Haram, their state assemblies can kick against it that such was not appropriate for them”
He further added that it is important to follow due process in the removal of funds from the ECA as it does not belong to the FG only but the three tiers
“No matter how inappropriate, if he does not accede to the request or deduction from his state’s portion there is no amount of consensus that can bind him as postulated by the Chairman of the Governors forum because such portion belongs to his state and not to the governors forum. So he may be entitled to a refund,”
