Liberian Health Authorities have confirmed that Ebola resurfaced in the country because of victims consuming dog meat that was found dead in a community engulfed by the virus.
According to Global News Network, Case Management Team leader for Ebola Task Force, Dr Moses Massaquo said that three villagers who had tested positive for the disease have a history of having had dog meat together.
Although Dog meat has not been scientifically proven to transmit Ebola, humans have been infected by eating monkey flesh in past outbreaks; there is speculation that sexual transmission is also possible because the virus can persist in semen for up to 90 days, versus 21 days in blood or vomit.
Currently, the World Health Organisation has estimated that 200 people had contact with the first victim and all of them are being monitored.
