In what looked like a script from a Nollywood movie, a newly employed driver killed his employer in Gombe state after being employed for just three weeks and made away with the vehicle of the deceased.
This was confirmed by the Gombe State Police Command which said its men arrested a 25 year old driver for the murder of his employer, Prof. Simon Apakwu of the Federal University Kashere Gombe state.
Prif. Simon Apakwu aged 65, was killed by the 25 year old driver at his residence who made away with the car of the deceased as well as other valuables.
Men of the Gombe state Police command arrested the 25 year old and recovered the vehicle of the deceased, a Toyota Corolla car marked: RSH 520 SE, unspecified amount of cash, two phones as well as other valuable including a First Bank cheque book, ATM cards, T-shirt and a pair of shoe belonging to the late employer of the 25 year old driver.

Police further reported recovering more personal effects belonging to the deceased employer including a brown bag, two blood-stained white and red towels, and national Identity card of the deceased as well as 10 empty sachets of tramadol tablets which is a controlled substance in the country.
According to the Police, the deceased employer who was also a lecturer at the Federal University in Kashere had planned to travel to Benue on the 14th of September before being brutally murdered by his driver who had only been in the employ of the deceased for three weeks.
Speaking on how the killer driver was apprehended, the Gombe state commissioner of Police said;
“The command made immediate contact with police commands in Jos, Nasarawa and Benue for assistance, while the DSS and Army in Gombe, Plateau states also searched for the fleeing driver.
After four days of search, the fleeing driver was arrested on Sept. 18 about 4 pm in Jos, where he (allegedly) attempted to dispose the stolen vehicle.”
The Police further stated that upon arrest, the 25 year old had confessed to the murder of his employer and will be charged to court to answer for his crimes very soon
