There is a brewing crisis in the air between the Department of Petroleum Resources and petroleum marketers in Akwa Ibom state, as the DPR has given the marketers three days to revert to the stipulated N87 pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol, or face the music.
This directive was given by the DPR office in Eket through its Operations Controller in the state, Mr Asuquo Antai, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Antai who spoke in the state capital, Uyo, said that the marketers had no justifiable reason to hike the price of petrol in the state.
“From Thursday Nov. 5, no retail outlet should sell above government approved price of N87 per litre.
“Any filling station that sells above the price will be shut for three months and defaulters will have to pay fine before being reopened for business.
“Any retail outlet that cannot sell for N87 per litre should close because we are going to monitor them strictly to ensure compliance,” Antai stressed.
Furthermore, he said that three million litres of petrol was supplied to the state last week, stating that the scarcity of the product in the state was inexplicable.
