The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate in the November 16, 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa, Sen. Douye Diri has been sworn in as governor of the state.
He replaces Seriake Dickson, whose second term expired today.
His deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, earlier took his oath of office.
The Supreme Court on Thursday invalidated the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the election, David Lyon as governor-elect, paving the way for Diri’s emergence.
National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had vowed that nobody would be sworn in today as governor of the oil-rich state.
