Senior Muslim clerics in Ekiti have warned Muslims in the state against collecting rams and foodstuff from the Ayodele Fayose-led administration during the forthcoming Eid el Kabir celebration.
The clerics acting under the aegis of the League of Imams and Alfas, Ekiti State Chapter, said they were forced to take the hard stance as a result of the governor’s marginalisation of the Muslim community in his political appointments in the state.
The group claimed it made several attempts to air their grievances to the governor on the issue but were rebuffed.
The meeting announcing the decision of the Muslim clerics held on Tuesday at Ansar-ud-Deen Central Mosque Odo-Otu, Ado-Ekiti, and was attended by officials of the state chapters of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) and other Islamic organisations.
The clerics who backed their stance with a Quranic quotation stated that any follower that contravenes their directive would be committing Haram (sin) which will be duly punished by Allah.
