Senator Shehu Sani has warned supporters of the present administration against categorising the Super Eagles’ good showing at the ongoing African Cup of Nations as part of the administration’s achievements.
Recall that Nigeria beat South Africa 2-1 to qualify for the semi final of the tournament.
President Muhammadu Buhari has since congratulated the team, urging them to win the two remaining matches needed to lift the trophy.
Some supporters of the administration have equally hailed the presence for creating the conditions that have enabled the team to thrive.
However, Sani disagreed, saying that no government should claim the Eagles victory since no government claimed their failures in the past.
The senator, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, said, “Don’t use Super Eagles successes for Political propaganda or count their victories as part of ‘the political achievement’;their defeats in the past has never been accepted as part of ‘failure of Government’.
We should simply appreciate & celebrate them for flying despite all odds.”
