Don’t allow Dariye rot in jail – Ex-Plateau gov begs Buhari

Dariye weeps in court

Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to grant his predecessor, Joshua Dariye executive pardon on the grounds of ill-health.

Recall that the Supreme Court recently affirmed the 10-year sentence passed on Joshua by a High Court of the FCT for criminal misappropriation and criminal breach of trust.

However, the apex court quashed his conviction in respect of criminal misappropriation, which attracts a two-year prison term but has no effect on his overall number of years of imprisonment.

Speaking in Jos on Sunday, Jang appealed to President Buhari to facilitate Dariye’s release from prison on health grounds.

He further appealed that another former governor of Taraba State, Rev. Jolly Nyame, should also be granted state pardon, having served part of his jail term.

Similarly, Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Istifanus Gyang appealed for the ex-governors release.

“We from Plateau North are appealing to President Buhari that in view of the recent Supreme Court judgment which had absolved former Gov. Dariye of criminal misappropriation and his deteriorating health condition, he should be released.

“We are making the appeal that he should be granted executive pardon on compassionate ground,” Gyang stated.
